STUDENT CLIMATE ACTION CONFERENCE SCAC 2025: Registrations open now! The Climate Project Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the Students’ Climate Action Conference 2025, a flagship initiative under the Green Campus Programme. This unique conference aims to bring together school students from across South Asia to explore, understand, and act on pressing local climate issues. Designed for students aged 12–17 years (classes 6th to 12th), the conference offers a platform to amplify young voices and foster climate leadership at the grassroots level. As part of the competition, participating students will be required to identify a climate-related issue in their school campus or local community, and conduct in-depth research to better understand the problem. This may include surveys, interviews, or community engagement activities. Based on their findings, students will work on implementing a small but impactful solution, and submit a 3-minute video documenting the process and outcomes of their action. Guided by a coordinating teacher, this experience will empower students to think critically, act locally, and share their stories of change. To recognize outstanding efforts, students from the top 5 schools in each of the 5 zones of India will be selected and rewarded at special zonal conferences, celebrating their commitment and contribution to climate action. Bangladesh Background Bangladesh, a country highly vulnerable to the impacts of global warming due to its low-lying geography and dense population. Rising sea levels threaten to inundate vast coastal areas, displacing millions of people and disrupting agriculture, which is a cornerstone of the nation's economy. Increased frequency and severity of cyclones, floods, and storm surges exacerbate these issues, leading to loss of life, property damage, and economic instability. In addition to these immediate challenges, long-term climate change impacts threaten Bangladesh's development prospects. Saltwater intrusion from rising sea levels compromises freshwater resources and arable land, affecting both drinking water supply and crop yields. Urban areas, especially the capital Dhaka, face increased heat stress and water scarcity, which strain infrastructure and public health systems. Building Young Climate Champions Through Action-Based Learning The Green Campus Program (GCP) Bangladesh is empowering students to become environmental stewards through hands-on, action-based climate education. Led by Md. Shakhawat Chowdhury, Mohammad Hafijul Islam, and Ms. Ananya Anower, the programme is transforming schools into centres of sustainability by equipping young learners with the knowledge and skills to address environmental challenges. The programme was launched across seven primary schools in its first phase. To support implementation, The Climate Reality Project – India & South Asia developed teacher activity handbooks covering Air, Water, Waste, Energy, and Biodiversity, providing educators with practical resources for experiential learning. Teachers have been trained by Climate Reality Leader Ms. Shamali Roy, enabling them to deliver engaging, activity-based lessons that encourage students to think critically, adopt sustainable practices, and take meaningful climate action within their schools and communities. The activity fostered empathy while helping students understand the vital contribution of recycling to environmental protection. STORY 01 Matrichaya Kindergarten Biodiversity Identification & Plantation Activity Students explored local biodiversity by identifying fruit, flower, and medicinal plants before participating in a hands-on plantation drive. STORY 01 Cox's Bazar World Ocean Day Beach Cleanup Campaign To commemorate World Ocean Day, Climate Reality Leaders (CRLs), volunteers, and community members came together for a large-scale beach cleanup campaign across Inani, Laboni, and Sugandha Beaches in Cox's Bazar. The initiative was led with the support of Climate Reality Leaders Md. Shakhawat Chowdhury, Muntasir Mamun, and Habiba Islam Shifat, whose leadership mobilised volunteers to protect Bangladesh's coastline. Introducing the Green Campus Programme in Bangladesh marks a pivotal step towards building sustainable educational institutions. To kickstart this transformative journey, a three day long event with title- "International Seminar on Climate Change: Empowering Change for a Sustainable Tomorrow," was organized in different educational institutions in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was a landmark event that served as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and action, uniting principals, administrators, and key stakeholders to exchange ideas, and innovative local solutions for creating greener campuses. The objective behind the three-day event was to conduct in person workshops with all three levels of educational institutions in Bangladesh- Schools (Students below 16 years) Colleges (Students between 16 to 18 years) Universities (Students between 19 to 25 years) On day 1, we conducted a seminar at The Independent University, Bangladesh where we were joined by the students from the Green Planet Club of the University. Mr. Rabbani, the Deptt. Head of Environment, shared his thoughts on the importance of dialogue between students and organizations with sustainability as the primary goal. Mr. Aditya Pundir, Director, TCPF-India and South Asia, gave a inspiring and thought provoking presentation on science, impacts and solutions of climate change focusing on Bangladesh. It was followed by Mr. Zahurul Haque, Country Coordinator for The Climate Reality Project, India and South Asia introduced the Green Campus Program to the present teachers, students and other stakeholders. On day 2, an event was organized at Mohan Nagar College, Merul Badda, Dhaka which was inaugurated with the planting of saplings by the Principal and Mr. Sifur Rahman from the Eco Concern Association. Ms. Riya Deb, Project Officer, TCPF, took the center stage and talked about ‘Clean and Green Campus’. More than 150 students from classes 9th to 12th and 12 faculty members along with the Principal joined the session. It was followed by an interactive Q/A session that provided valuable insights and inspired the participants to spearhead sustainability initiatives within their institution. The teachers also found the teaching resources exclusively developed in Bangla, relevant and useful for classroom teaching and happily took it with them. CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS PROGRAM When The Climate Reality Project India started its mission in 2009, the first challenge was to make people aware about the science and impacts of Climate change as there was very little awareness about the crisis. We started the Climate Change Awareness Program to make people understand that our climate is changing and the solutions are in our hands. Under this program, the well trained and expert Climate Reality Leaders give the customized and curated presentation on the science, impacts and solutions of Climate change for the region. Through this program, we collaborate with our partners to organize and conduct presentations. We have been proactively engaging the businesses, commercial associations, government, media houses, educational institutions and resident communities in climate change conversations. The session was designed to support the organisation’s sustainability efforts, with a specific focus on accelerating progress towards achieving Net Zero targets in the context of evolving global climate goals. The session was led by Mrs. Nita Ganguly, Climate Reality Leader and National Coordinator for Waste Management, who shared expert insights and practical perspectives. Acknowledging Netflix’s position as a leader within its category, the discussion emphasised the role of responsible corporate action in driving faster, science-aligned pathways towards Net Zero. Zee Entertainment The Climate Reality Project India collaborated with Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. to impart education and training on environmental issues. It all began with the “Climate Impact” program, which is a series of workshops that was conducted for the employees of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd.
