Work with The Climate Reality Project- India

The Climate Reality Project – India

Job Title: Project Officer – Road to Paris Campaign

Location of Work: New Delhi with the possibility of travel to other states

Nature of Engagement: Full Time

Project Background: The climate negotiations that will take place in Paris starting in late November 2015 will provide a critical opportunity to create an international agreement that would limit the greenhouse gas emissions driving climate change. There are, however, many obstacles standing in the way of a strong and meaningful agreement. To help ensure a successful agreement, the environmental community and civil society in general must convince world leaders that there is an overwhelming citizen support for bold action to cut emissions. To accomplish this goal, former US Vice President and Chairman of The Climate Reality Project Al Gore and Live Earth have developed a dynamic global campaign to mobilize and inspire a critical mass of citizens worldwide to support an agreement in Paris. This Campaign will bring a billion people together to sign a petition and send a clear message to the world leaders. Secondly, reaching out to the global community of environmental and civil society groups concerned with the impacts of climate change on issues from water to agriculture to severe weather to refugees and asking them to join the effort to obtain signatures for the petition is also identified as critical.

Roles & Responsibilities: Project Officer will be primarily responsible for all the key activities of the campaign. These activities include the following:
  • Develop country specific realistic goals, questionnaires etc.
  • Set out a strategy to have an effective campaign
  • Identifying and reaching out to environmental and civil society groups & government officials
  • Establishing contact with these groups
  • Meeting with these groups
  • Recruit the environmental and civil society groups to work on developing the petition
  • Ask citizens from diverse backgrounds to sign the petition
