GCP AWARDS 2022

This April, we unveiled the names of the winning schools for Green Campus Program Awards for 2022. Green Campus Program (GCP) is our flagship program. In our vision and mission of creating a sustainable tomorrow, GCP serves as an effective transformative catalyst. As the name suggests, it transforms the conventional campuses into green campuses. 

It was a proud moment for us to witness the commendable efforts and enthusiasm that the participating schools were vesting in the sustainable future of the planet. We conferred 2 schools with Platinum Medals; 12 schools with Gold Medals; 5 Silver Medals and 2 schools with Bronze Medals.

A DIALOGUE WITH UNESCO MGIEP ON IPCC REPORT FINDINGS

On 20th April, 2022, Aditya Pundir, Director - South Asia, The Climate Project Foundation and Aditi Pathak, Former Programme Specialist, UNESCO – MGIEP came forward with an interesting Instagram LIVE session on the latest IPCC report findings. This 30-minute insightful chat threw light on the latest findings of IPCC Report so to understand its implications for South-East Asia, especially India, and how we can encourage the youth to not only make sustainable choices but also learn to navigate through climate anxiety.

LINKING DRR & SDGS IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CRISIS

National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI in collaboration with Youth for Resilience and the Climate Project Foundation, organized a 3-days session on how Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is intertwined in a significant way with climate change, policies, SDGs and other key aspects.

Aditya Pundir, Director, India and South Asia, the Climate Project Foundation threw light on “Climate Crisis: Present & future Issues, Policies and initiatives.” Bhavesh Swami, Lead - Clean Energy Policy and Engagements, TCPF discussed about the magnanimous scope that local leadership brings in to build resilience.

EARTH HOUR - LEAD ON CLIMATE ACTION

A webinar, “Earth Hour 2022 – Lights Out” was conducted on 26th March, at 7:30 pm by Young Environmentalists Programme Trust and the Climate Project Foundation, in collaboration with Perfect Woman, ExploreiT, TERI School of Advanced Studies among others. 

Focusing on the role of youth to bring in positive change and impacts in the domain of sustainability, the webinar was graced with a line-up of brilliant young panellists, who talked about Climate Actions, and the mission extending beyond the “hour”. They also shared their journeys in the sphere of climate change. This was followed by a “Lights Out” session from 8:30 -9:30pm. The webinar saw over 300+ registrations.

EARTH DAY

On the eve of Earth Day, both the Climate Project Foundation and the Earth Day Network came forward to conduct a webinar on “Invest in Our Planet.” The webinar was attended by inspiring Climate Leaders, who are spearheading change on the ground. 

The session was moderated by Bhavesh Swami, Lead - Clean Energy Policy and Engagements, TCPF. The webinar brought sectoral experts from South Asia, who have been active on the ground and have carried out some commendable revival projects to heal our planet. They set an example and motivated us to do our bit.

PRINCIPALS’ CONCLAVE

The Climate Reality Project India organised a mega Principals’ Conclave on Climate Change and Sustainability Education for a safer planet on 16th April 2022. The S.D Vidya School hosted the event which is the Nodal School for Climate Reality’s Green Campus Program in Haryana region. This event was attended by Principals from 50 schools from various cities of Haryana viz. Ambala, Kurukshetra, Yamuna Nagar & Chandigarh.

The event commenced with an overview session by Aditya Pundir, Director-South Asia, on the science, impacts and solutions of climate change which was followed by a Question Answer session. This was followed by the Director Principal of The S.D. Vidya School giving a sneak preview of the initiatives taken by the school to become a sustainable and Platinum winner of the Green Campus Program. 

Some of the key takeaways of the conclave are: Understanding of the burning issue of climate change; practical ways in which institutions can get ready to solve the crisis; and tools and techniques with resources for learning further and taking actions.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH AND SUSTAINABILITY FESTIVAL 22’

International Youth and Sustainability Festival 22’ was organized by Symbiosis Institute, in association with ExploreiT, and the Climate Project Foundation (TCPF), to commemorate Earth Day 2022. It was a 3-day event that focused on specific segments pertaining to climate change each day. The festival saw various domain experts talking about climate change mitigation with reference to water management, waste management, cleanliness (soil, land, and air), Eco Restoration, Indigenous people and Climate Justice. The experts talked about the tools and techniques for climate change mitigation with examples from their areas of expertise.

The festival was attended by huge number of youths, which is a clear indication of the consciousness that is gradually getting built around climate change and mitigation. The session was not just interesting but also donned the attendees with baskets full of takeaways.
